THE WATERUNDERFISHBIRD

This fish/bird-like creature shows us the issue of birds and fish threatened by humans. Floating nets in our oceans, also known as ghost nets, are a threat to whales, dolphins and porpoises. Plastic waste floating around in the sea is eaten by the animals and, together with other toxins, causes disease or death. Heavy shipping traffic causes habitat disruption.
The animal swims away in search of clean water. Unfortunately: a piece of orange plastic has lodged itself in its stomach and will not let the animal go...

Cet animal ressemblant à un poisson/oiseau nous montre le problème des oiseaux et des poissons menacés par l'homme. Les filets flottants dans nos océans, également appelés filets fantômes, sont une menace pour les baleines, les dauphins et les marsouins. Les déchets plastiques qui flottent dans la mer sont mangés par les animaux et, associés à d'autres substances toxiques, provoquent des maladies ou la mort. Le traffic maritime intense perturbe l'habitat. L'animal nage à la recherche d'eau propre. Malheureusement , un morceau de plastique orange s'est niché dans l'estomac et ne lâche plus l'animal...

Dit vis/vogelachtig diertje toont ons de problematiek van de vogels en vissen die door de mens worden bedreigd. Ronddrijvende netten in onze oceanen, ook wel spooknetten genoemd, zijn een bedreiging voor walvissen, dolfijnen en bruinvissen. Plastic afval dat ronddrijft in zee wordt door de dieren opgegeten en samen met andere giftige stoffen zorgt dit voor ziekte of sterfte. Druk scheepvaartverkeer veroorzaakt verstoring van het leefgebied. Het diertje zwemt weg op zoek naar proper water. Helaas: een stukje oranje plastic heeft zich genesteld in de maag en laat het diertje niet meer los…
